On December 16, 2020 at approximately 7:45 AM, Deschutes County Sheriff Deputies Michael Mangin and Clint Baltzor located 47-year-old Steven Eugene Newberg walking on BLM land west of Bend Road. The deputies were searching for Newberg so they could arrest him for a parole warrant. During the interaction between the deputies and Mr. Newberg, a deputy shot Newberg.
